Curriculum

The Muntham House POST-16 curriculum has been carefully designed to provide all pupils with a broad, balanced challenging curriculum including a wide range of both academic and vocational subject areas.  The options available include functional skills, GCSE’s and BTEC courses in a wide range of areas.

Intent:

The aim of Muntham House POST-16 is to provide a broad and varied curriculum to ensure that our pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs attain the skills and experience they need to leave school and become contributors to their communities and lead a fulfilled life.  Pupils can select a range of different courses so that they leave school with a range of qualifications which will enable them to access employment or the next stage of their learning.

Implementation:

To achieve this aim, we have implemented several different programs and initiatives, all of which are underpinned by social and emotional aspects of learning:

  • Vocational qualifications: We offer a range of vocational qualifications that give our pupils the opportunity to expand their academic qualifications in a work-based setting. This allows them to gain hands-on experience and develop the skills they need to succeed in their chosen field.
  • Personal, Health, Social, and Economic studies: These studies are designed to help our pupils understand the importance of citizenship and develop the knowledge and skills they need to be active and engaged members of their communities.
  • Work/Life Ready studies: These studies focus on helping pupils develop the independence skills they need to succeed in their daily lives.
  • Careers Workshops: We offer a range of workshops that help pupils understand employability skills, such as resume writing, interviewing, and networking. This helps them prepare for the job market and increase their chances of finding employment.
  • Driving Theory and Practical: We teach our pupils the theory and practical skills needed to obtain a driver's license and become independent drivers. Pupils receive theory and practical lessons and the school funds the cost of all tests.
  • Duke of Edinburgh: Our pupils are encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh program, which helps them develop social and community skills, such as teamwork, leadership, and self-motivation. This course includes expeditions and a residential experience.

Impact:

Through these programs and initiatives, our aim is to provide our pupils with the skills and experiences they need to become contributors within their communities and live a full and happy life. The impact of this curriculum on our POST-16 pupils is significant and can be life-changing. Engaging in the curriculum will develop confidence and independence and raise the self-esteem of our pupils. The curriculum aims to ensure that POST-16 pupils are fully prepared for adulthood.
